VETERAN St Kilda forward Justin Koschitzke will play for Sandringham again this week but doesn’t appear to be in the Saints’ immediate footy plans.
The forward has yet to play a senior match this season – and even if a forward is needed to be called upon – it may be his counterpart Trent Dennis-Lane, who will be looked more favourably upon come selection.
The Saints have a ruck-combo of Ben McEvoy and Tom Hickey; the latter being plucked from Gold Coast to effectively replace Koschitzke’s ruck participation.
And what is more troubling for Koschitzke is that this is the final year of his contract. He is one of four Saints – in the twilight of their careers – out of contract at the end of the season.
Saints development coach Simon McPhee, also the coach of Sandringham, said he was content with Koschitzke’s output at VFL level.
“He’s just working really hard and providing a great contest for us. He took six or seven marks for us today and just working really hard and leading for us,” McPhee said.
“He’s been great.”
“Yeah he’s a senior player with a lot of experience and can compete really hard. I’ve got no doubt if he keeps working hard,” he said.
